Serve the City Peninsula
Non-profit insurance, does Serve the City Peninsula need it?
Serve the City Peninsula would like to be protected from lawsuits so that we can focus on continuing to serve the poor elderly, homeless and children on the Peninsula.

Background & Context
This project is important because it will insure Serve the City Peninsula will continue meeting the needs of those in need on the Peninsula. We currently do home repair and yard work for poor elderly widows and disabled persons who can no longer take care of their homes. We repair and/or install hand rails, repair porch railings and wheel chair ramps, as well as numerous other home repairs that can be done by volunteers. Our work allows the home owner to stay safe in their homes and keeps their homes up to code so that do not get fined by the city.
Immediate Problem
The immediate problem is that I do not know if we need insurance and if so, what kind? Do I need it for the Board of Directors and/or our volunteers? I have had two strong conflicting opinions. 1. We need Board of Director's Insurance-from a Director of a another nonprofit2. We do not need insurance because we are such a small non-profit and what we do would follow under a "do gooders" cause. Our total budget is less than $30,000. Our assets are maybe $10,000. - from a for profit insurance agent

We serve elderly people, homeless people, and children. We also support other non-profits so that they can better fulfill their mission.
