Tracking Key Regulations and Policymaking in Federal and State Administrations
Make an impact by amplifying important changes to federal and state regulations.
Posted March 27, 2020
The American Constitution Society is expanding its Notice and Comment Project, which monitors regulations and policymaking and then highlights select opportunities that may be of interest to the legal community. Submitting a comment for a federal or state notice of proposed rulemaking is one of the simplest and essential ways for the public to participate in the rulemaking process. ACS’s Notice and Comment initiative identifies opportunities to comment on key regulations put forth by federal and state agencies.
ACS is looking to expand the project to include additional state regulatory notices and also issue-specific commission comment opportunities. There is currently no single location to find proposed regulatory changes for all 50 states. Not only that, but many state proposed regulatory changes are difficult to monitor and not easily accessible to the general public. In addition, state and local commissions also have opportunities for public comment.
ACS is looking for volunteers to monitor, on a weekly basis, notices of proposed rulemaking or commission opportunities for public comment. Volunteers will be assigned a region to monitor and will send to ACS their edited findings each week. ACS will provide instructions on how to track notices and guidance on the type of notices that align with ACS priorities. ACS will feature select notices on its website and regularly share notices in targeted emails. This is a long-term project and ACS will work with volunteers to determine the length of volunteer commitment. Volunteers are also welcome to draft and submit their own personal comments on issues they are interested in.
Preparation Phase
- Volunteers will receive detailed instructions from the project coordinator.
Collaboration Phase
- Volunteers will conduct weekly research and submit findings to the project coordinator
Wrap Up
- Volunteers will have a final check-in with the project coordinator.
American Constitution Society
The American Constitution Society (ACS) believes that law should be a force to improve the lives of all people. ACS works for positive change by shaping debate on vitally important legal and constitutional issues through development and promotion of high-impact ideas to opinion leaders and the media; by building networks of lawyers, law students, judges and policymakers dedicated to those ideas; and by countering the activist conservative legal movement that has sought to erode our enduring constitutional values.
