Help Translash Media embed positive narratives of transgender people in our culture.
Posted February 19, 2020
TransLash is a cross-platform journalism, personal storytelling and narrative project aimed at embedding new narratives of transgender people of color into public consciousness, thereby helping to decrease cultural hostility towards this community—the most marginalized of the marginalized—and save lives.
Throughout 2020 TransLash will build upon its momentum and success garnered in 2018 and 2019 to accomplish its goals and objectives by using the power of video, digital and interactive media, as well as live events to: 1) create a variety of stories aimed at thought-leaders and the public-at-large and 2) enable trans people to communicate the urgency of the moment through storytelling. Our primary 2020 objective is to center trans stories in order to spur public engagement and education —during the critical General Election year—for the 9 out of 10 Americans who say that they don’t know personally know a trans person.
However given our projected growth and sources of income it is important for us to create a 501c3 for this effort in order to sustain ourselves our the long term.
By combining our programs and new organizational structure,. TransLash can continue to drive new narratives. This will help to underscore the consequences of the current cultural and policy backlash for this vulnerable group of Americans throughout the consequential, upcoming year. Humanizing trans people is essential to shifting the current hostile environment that foments the negative outcomes experienced by trans people, spurred by the actions and policy choices of non-trans citizens.
The bottom line is that through desired scale and scope, TransLash is having a real impact and changing the way media is used to advance human rights. But by being a 501c3 we can do even more.
