Research records of Trump's judicial nominees

Posted April 15, 2019

**Due to the current work flow, assignments may not come right away. However, volunteer lawyers will be welcomed onto a list that will be activated as nominations and assignments are available**

President Trump is nominating federal judges at a breakneck speed, many with records and backgrounds demonstrating egregious positions against civil rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ equality, criminal justice, workers’ rights, environmental protections, and more. At Alliance for Justice we do in-depth research on nominees’ and potential nominees’ records and are looking for lawyers to assist in our review.

For nominees that are already judges, this is predominantly reviewing and analyzing their judicial opinions, prioritizing the most important opinions/concurrences/dissents, understanding where the nominee stands on controversial topics, and exploring patterns of decision making that show a specific ideology. We also ask that attorneys examine the nominee’s other writings and activities. This typically includes reviewing education, employment history, publications in academic and popular press, speeches, and affiliations with groups.

Past volunteers have provided their findings via memoranda or other written product. Research is for AFJ and AFJ’s use only, and is limited to a factual review. Volunteers are not committing to advocating for or against any nominees.

This is an ongoing project.
