Attorney needed to assist one NC voter and one GA voter to get Puerto Rico birth certificate
Getting their birth certificates will enable them to get state-issued IDs

Background & Context
Puerto Rico has extremely strict rules for birth certificate issuance, allowing only the individual and a parent or child to apply. Both individuals' parents are deceased and they have no children. Without their birth certificates, they are unable to get a state ID, which in turn means they cannot vote and often cannot get onboarded to a job, access healthcare or obtain housing.
Work & Deliverables
Obtain a letter of representation from each client, complete the PR birth certificate application and submit application for each client with other required documentation.
Preparation Phase
- Intro call with volunteer coordinator, review BC application process
- Introduction to client
Collaboration Phase
- Complete paperwork including limited representation agreement signed by client (we can facilitate)
Wrap Up
- Deliver/mail birth certificate to local VoteRiders' staff or directly to client
- Conduct debrief with VoteRiders' staff to inform similar work in the future
