Help Asylum-Seekers Fleeing Conflict Obtain Release from Immigration Detention
Reunite immigrant families with loved ones to pursue their cases outside of detention

Background & Context
RMIAN has an urgent need for volunteers to represent individuals detained at the Aurora immigration detention center in bond proceedings. This is especially urgent and compelling given the COVID-19 pandemic. A sample case in need of representation is below. The Aurora court allows for telephonic appearances, so all bond cases can be handled remotely.
Work & Deliverables
Mr. BB is a 21-year-old man from Nicaragua who recently arrived in the United States. Mr. BB is afraid to return to Nicaragua because he was beaten and threatened by government forces due to his opposition to the current government. He entered with his father, who has since been released and is living with his cousin in Texas. This cousin has also agreed to serve as Mr. BB's sponsor. Mr. BB passed his credible fear interview and is eligible to apply for asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention against Torture. He seeks an attorney to represent him on a bond case so that he may pursue his asylum application from outside of detention. He seeks an attorney to advocate on his behalf.
